As you could imagine, one of these involves costumes, or, more specifically, the costume exhibitions that happened around Japan to promote the movie.
The costumist of the movie, Mitsuru Otsuka, didn't leave us much comment about his work, so we just imagine what were the feelings that he wanted to evoke in the watcher.
It's interesting to note, though, that after Kirin ga kuru and Dousuru Ieyasu, even Otsuka opted for a yellow/gold/black combination for Nobunaga character, making the "usual" red and black combo quite marginal.
Also the armours of Nobunaga were exhibited. They are credited to Marutake, but I'm not sure they took care of all the props of the movie.
Special mention to Akiko Ashizawa, that took care of the photography and cinematography; I added a few shots from the movie to show the costumes "in action", and her work truly brings out the best of them.
EON Mall Kusatsu Exhibition (January 1∼February 5)
Since the movie sported a good number of shooting locations in Shiga, a special event with director Keishi Otomo was held at EON Cinema Kusatsu in there on February 15.
The mall sported a little area to celebrate the collab with Shiga prefecture and some costumes from the movie were exhibited:
Those are the two armors worn by Takuya Nobunaga and the costume of Nouhime.
Let's give a closer look at the armours!
The first one, is the armour that Nobunaga wore during the Okehazama battle:
Second Nobu specimen, the "infamous" Western armour! A new one to add to our list, I guess!
Gifu Takashimaya Exhibition (January 13∼January 20)
Gifu was super-treasured stop, the shooting of Nobunaga's residence was here, and the Nobunaga Gifu Matsuri was a first, huge promotional sprint for the movie (yes, that was Mount Kinka indeed!).
Here were exhibited the beautiful costumes of the "Three Heroes", Ieyasu, Nobunaga and Hideyoshi. These costumes were worn during the scene of New Year Celebrations in Gifu, inclusive of the infamous gilded skulls--!
EON Mall Hiroshima-fuchu (January 13∼January 20) Another set of costumes worn by Nobunaga and Nouhime in the more mature days was exhibited in Hiroshima.
Nagarakawa Ukai Museum (January 27∼March 5)
Besides Takashimaya mall, another favoured location of Gifu was the Ukai Museum of Nagara river.
Here the exhibition was divided in three parts: from January 27 to February 5, the costumes of Nouhime, Nobunaga and Fukuzumi Sadaie, from February 6 to February 9, the costumes of Nouhime, Kagamino and Fukuzumi, from February 10 to March 5, the costume of Nouhime, the armour of Nobunaga and the costume of Fukuzumi.
This location was super-suggestive, with Mount Kinka and Gifu Castle as the background!
Extra attention was given to the character of Fukuzumi Sadaie because the actor, Hideaki Itō, is a native of Gifu ^^ He took part in the Nobunaga Gifu Matsuri too!
Okayama Castle Exhibition (February 9∼February 26)
Also Okayama Castle enjoyed its very own exhibition!
Besides the costumes of Nobunaga and Nouhime worn in the final, fateful scene, a few props of famous artifacts were exposed too.
Midland Square Cinema (February 23∼March 5)
The costumes that Nobunaga and Nouhime wore during their first meeting were exhibited inside the Midland Square Cinema located in front of Nagoya Station.
Of course other exhibitions were hold pretty much EVERYWHERE as soon as the movie hit the theatres, but this is just a personal selection of my favourites!
