One, No One-- Definitely more than Three?! A peek to the "Three Nobunagas" pamphlet!

--I realize how foolish it is to talk about movies that I didn't watch, but by now you are aware that I like to collect such items, as these various depictions of Nobunaga amuse me despite my actual experience about them, which is, in most cases, for obvious reasons, impossible!
Today's piece is quite significative in this sense, as I want to browse with you one of my last acquisitions, the pamphlet of the Three Nobunagas (3人の信長, Sannin no Nobunaga) movie, released in 2019.
This looks like a fun comedy that plays on the exact issue of historiography: that nobody really knows "who" a historical figure "really" is, despite their importance or significance in history.

The plot is this: after the defeat of Imagawa in 1560, his retainers still burn with vengeance. Following the retreat of Nobunaga's army in 1570 during the Battle of Anegawa, Ujinori Kanbara manages to capture Nobunaga.
As he was about to behead him to bring justice to his lord, Nobuteru Sena declares that he captured Nobunaga-- Later on, Ujinori's subordinate brings in another Nobunaga-- So, what now? Who is the real Nobunaga and who are the kagemusha?
Our guys do their best to investigate Nobunaga's mannerism, attitude, physical traits, likes and dislikes, but besides the obvious differences, all three Nobunagas fit in the description.
The movies plays on a common issue back in the days, that commoners or outsiders didn't really knew the appearance of daimyo or generals, even when they were as famous as our Nobu. All they could do, was investigating to get a description as closer as possible of the original, but that was impossible in the first place-- Doesn't it feel familiar, my fellow wannabe-scholars..?
In the end, all the Nobunagas got free because it was impossible to tell the real one-- And in the end Ujinori was recruited as a "fourth Nobunaga" himself 😅

The writer and director of this movie is scriptwriter Kei Watanabe, here at his first experience as a director.
You may remember about this movie because it was granted a premiere screening at the Japanese Film Festival of Los Angeles on August, as I mentioned back then.

Ok, then, let's check the contents.

Here are our Three Nobus:
From left to right, they are interpreted by Yoshinori Okada, TAKAHIRO and Hayato Ichihara.

Here's the page with the characters involved and their relationships:
The Nobunagas are identified by a numeric kanji, related to the order on which they were captured: TAKAHIRO is "甲" (kinoe, "first"), Ichihara is "乙" (kinoto, "second") and Okada is "丙" (hinoe, "third").

The full-page pictures dedicated to our boys:
The three Nobunagas share the same exact peculiarities, but they have different personalities-- Each one somehow adherent to the image of Nobunaga!
"First" is the wild type, "Second" the natural leader, "Third" is the fool... Three strong, fitting interpretations that suit the need of "the original" to be ignored!

Of course there's the usual interview to the three protagonists:

I'm super-interested in the so-called "production notes"! This article summarizes the seven years of the movie making, from inspirations, location scouting and so on.

In the end-- The "Four" Nobunagas ^_^

And that's it for today! See you next time with another interesting pamphlet I acquired!
